We have an African winner, The 61-year-old Hon Shirley
Ayorkor Botchwey, currently Minister for Foreign Affairs and regional
integration from Ghana has been appointed the new Commonwealth Secretary
General replacing The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC from UK in just ended
CHOGM in Apia, Samoa.
She contested against, Josua Phoho Setipa, Former minister
of Trade and Industry, and former UN MD for Technology Bank, (Lesotho); and
H.E. Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International cooperation
& Gambians Abroad, (Gambia).
On 11 September I hinted that the post was likely to go to
Ghana or Gambia having listened to their diplomatic pitch decks, and I has been
proven right.
Congratulations!
